
Prof. Leonid Churilov
Leonid Churilov is Professor of Biostatistics at Melbourne Medical School, University of Melbourne. He completed his PhD (1998) at the University of Melbourne. In 2007-2019 he was Head of Statistics and Decision Analysis at Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health.
Leonid is an internationally recognized expert in the area of design and analysis of clinical trials. He was a Co-Chair of the Australasian Stroke Trials Network (2019-2022), chaired the Australian Clinical Trials Alliance Trial of the Year Statistical Award panel in 2021 and 2022, and currently co-leads the trials stream within the NHMRC CRE to Accelerate Stroke Trial Innovation and Translation. He was a 2000 Victoria Fellow and is a recipient of international awards from the Operational Research (OR) professional societies of the USA and Japan, and the Ren Potts Medal of the Australian Society for Operational Research that recognizes outstanding contributions to theory and practice of OR. In 2022 Prof Churilov was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
In his current role, he contributes biostatistical, analytics, and decision modelling expertise to multinational clinical trials and to pre-clinical, clinical, imaging, and service evaluation studies in the areas of stroke, epilepsy, spinal cord injury, diabetes, mental health, anaesthesia, and rehabilitation medicine. Leonid also serves on Data Safety Monitoring Boards for multiple large clinical trials.
