Prof. John Eikelboom

John Eikelboom, MBBS, MSc, FRCPC is Professor of Medicine at McMaster University in Canada. He is haematologist at the Hamilton General Hospital, Senior Investigator at Population Health Research Institute and holds the Jack Hirsh/PHRI Chair in Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis.

John was born in Perth, Western Australia and studied for his undergraduate degree in Medicine at the University of Western Australia. He completed training in Internal Medicine and Hematology in 1998 and a Master of Medical Science in 2000. Since joining faculty at McMaster University in 2005, he has led the Thrombosis Research group at the Population Health Research Institute and has played a leadership role in multiple large, randomized trials of antithrombotic therapies in arterial and venous thrombosis. He has over 700 peer-reviewed publications and since 2014 has been listed annually among the top 1% of the most cited researchers worldwide. Since the onset of the COVID pandemic he has led the ACT (Anti-Coronavirus Therapy) trial (target n=6,000) that is currently ongoing in 14 predominantly middle-income countries.
